Brewhouse Brewer reports directly to the Head Brewer and is responsible for assisting with the operation of the brewery and beer program at Goose Island Brewhouse. The focus is on maintaining cleanliness, quality and consistent operation. The brewer should meet the requirements of the job description, be ready to learn, grow, and approach daily tasks with a positive attitude.
OBJECTIVES
  • Daily Brewery Operations – brewing and finishing beer for service at Brewhouse, maintain Brewhouse equipment and clean environment.
  • Beer Service – Manage selection of Goose Island beers to keep beer list balanced and complete
  • Budget and Cost Control – Take weekly inventories, and provide weekly racking reports.
  • Tours and Events – Work with General Managers and Director of Operations on establishing a plan to coordinate and execute brewery tours/events to promote sales.
  • Education – Teach staff and customers about Goose Island Beer, Beer Company & Brewhouse and provide general beer knowledge and culture.
BEER SERVICE
  • Clean and maintain draft lines at least twice per month and as needed.
  • The cleaning and maintenance schedule will be agreed upon by the Head Brewer and General Manager.
  • Advise on and keep inventory of all guest beers, including Fulton beers, to maintain a balanced beer list.
  • Make recommendations for glassware, pricing and food pairings for each beer served at the brewpub.
TOURS, EVENTS & EDUCATION
  • Work with General Manager and Event Planner to schedule private and public brewery tours and their guides.
  • Ensure safety of all brewery staff and visitors.
  • Special Events include but are not limited to:  Beer Dinners, Tastings, Beer Academy, Bottle Releases, and Festivals.
  • General Manager will have final approval on all aspects of brewhouse special events.
  • Participation in outside events will be at the discretion of the General Manager and Director of Operations.
  • Outside events include but are not limited to:  CBC, GABF, FoBAB, and Great Taste of the Midwest.
  • Establish and promote Goose Island culture both inside and outside of the Brewhouse.
  • Share knowledge and insight with staff and customers.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent, higher education preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Frequently stand, walk, use hands to feel objects and tools, reach, crawl, kneel, hear, communicate
  • Frequently lift and/or move 55 pounds
  • Organize and maneuver full kegs weighing up to 165 pounds
