Brooklyn Brewery is seeking to hire a Brewer. This position is responsible for the production of our beers and will complete all facets of the brewing process including brew house operations, fermentation monitoring, dry-hopping, centrifuge operation, filtration, blending, carbonation etc.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely handle hazardous chemicals
  • Must work rotation shifts (7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am)
  • Record accurate daily records
  • Communicate effectively with other brewers and management, and contribute to a positive work environment through open dialogue and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Demonstrate exceptional time management skills and work ethic
  • Take part in taste panel work as directed
  • Performing both brewhouse and cellar duties

Brewhouse:

  • Wort production in a timely, efficient manner. Managing the running of recipe programs on the BeraBrew system to maximize wort production while maintaining quality;
  • Preparing ingredients for subsequent brews on the schedule;
  • Obtaining samples for the laboratory;
  • Communicating with the cellar to ensure fermenter and yeast availability;
  • Monitoring and maintaining the water household and boiler function;
  • Troubleshooting problems with the Berabrew system and mechanical problems. Resolving issues and/or reporting them
  • Filling out paperwork and spreadsheets with timeliness and accuracy;
  • Monitoring levels in oxygen tanks and chemical drums, swapping out empty containers, and reporting low inventory;
  • Moving 55# ingredients upstairs to the brew deck
  • Keeping the brewhouse, mill room and silo room clean and presentable;
  • Adhering to the CIP schedule for the brewhouse tanks. Adhering to the schedule for visual inspection of the interior of the external boiler;
  • Assisting with fermenter sanitization as needed

Cellar:

  • Effectively prioritize production needs
  • Monitor all quality control parameters and adjust processes as necessary to achieve brewery standards for product quality
  • Equipment and processes such as, Filtrox Plate and Frame, GEA Westfalia centrifuge, Rolec Dry Hopniks, Manual Dry-hopping,Yeast Harvesting and CIPs


Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and climb stairs, stoop in close quarters, grip and manipulate fittings several times a day, and read and understand a variety of scientific instruments and calculations. The employee is occasionally required to kneel or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds throughout the day. This includes lifting bags/boxes of hops, large process hoses, bags of filtrate, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications
  • 1+ years of professional brewing experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft office
  • Familiarity with automated process control systems
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic systems, industrial electricity, mechanical power, steam generation and distribution, industrial refrigeration and sanitary process piping and systems strongly preferred
  • Consistent and reliable in attitude and timeliness
  • Strong work ethic, is self-driven and proactive
  • Someone who strives to meet department and brewery objectives and goals
  • Ability to multi-task with high attention to detail and commitment quality
  • Must be able to work assigned shifts
  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
