Responsibilities

  • Primary contact for the brewing, ingredient management, and facility equipment side of the business

  • Oversee and collaborate on recipe creation, coordination and development for Pilot’s stack of partner breweries

  • Lead ordering of materials and inventory

  • Manage operating procedures for each phase of concepting, brewing, fermentation, and kegging

  • Operate brewhouse and produce batches from start to finish in partnership with the rest of our brewing team

  • Manage CIP cleaning of brewing and fermentation tanks, and other equipment

  • Maintain log of all brewing related notes from brew day through fermentation and assisting with finishing and packaging

  • Maintain clean brewing practices in the brewhouse and cellar

  • Responsible for all preventative maintenance on brewhouse and cellar equipment, as well as the taproom

  • Willingness to help out with other tasks including events, packaging, receiving, cleaning and other business-related details associated with an expanding start-up businesses

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with brewery partners

Qualifications & Experience

  • Expert project manager and ability to manage multiple priorities at once

  • Willingness to work long hours and flexibility between days, evenings, nights and weekends

  • 7+ years of professional brewing experience

  • Mechanical experience and aptitude required

  • An expert understanding of all aspects of brewing not limited to hot side, cellaring, yeast handling, packaging, CIP, and sanitization

  • Expertise in quality assurance (QA) methods and procedures

  • Strong knowledge with laboratory operations and applicable biology/chemistry

  • Excellent communication, time management, problem-solving and organizational skills

  • Natural leadership required with the ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision

  • Must be sociable, willing and comfortable to represent the brewery at events and in public

  • Knowledge of local Chicago breweries and major players in the industry

  • Ability to lift 60 lbs

  • Must be a team player
