The Packaging Operator is responsible for running packaging equipment safely and efficiently during shift. The Operator will be expected to work on the kegging, key keg and bottling lines. The Operator is responsible for ensuring the bright beer tanks are is spec and all quality control specs are met, controlled, and documented throughout a packaging run. Running the equipment in a way that is conducive for attaining the production schedule in an efficient and cost effective manner as an essential function of this role.

Responsibilities:

Facility:

  • Maintain a clean and presentable work space at all times,
  • Safety minded – conscious of chemical hazards, automatic machines, and moving parts,
  • Be respectful and informative to the public. Quickly remove them from hazardous areas and inform them where they can find information on our public access times,
  • Operate the electric pallet jack safely in small spaces and heavy traffic areas.

Personal Responsibility:

  • Show up on time and ensure a smooth timely start
  • Understand proper and safe operations of each area and machine of the brewery
  • Work as a team
  • Assist all other packaging employees in their daily task to ensure that packaging continues in a smooth and consistent fashion

Beer Quality:

  • Solid understanding of perennial beer portfolio
  • Work with the cellaring crew on when beers are cleared for packaging
  • Use the CBox QC for bottle oxygen and CO2 quality checks
  • Training to learn fermentation profiles
  • Training to learn barrel aging process
  • Training to learn experimental beer process

Comac Keg Machine & M+F Key Keg Machine:

  • Observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of filled kegs to the standard of the Brooklyn Brewery,
  • Ensure a proper sterilization at the start of a run by monitoring the CIP systems flow and temperatures,
  • Ensure a proper CIP is done at the end of a run with the standard chemical concentrations and time durations are met,
  • Proficient in all of the common troubleshooting errors encountered during production on a weekly basis,
  • Keep the machine clean through daily wash downs and scrubbing,
  • Collect and record daily production counts,
  • Training in maintaining and updating the preventative maintenance schedule

GAI Bottle Line:

  • Training to learn the basic operation and troubleshooting steps of the GAI filler,
  • Ensure a proper sterilization at the start of a run by monitoring the CIP systems flow and temperatures,
  • Ensure a proper CIP is done at the end of a run with the standard chemical concentrations and time durations are met,
    • Complete understanding of all non-filling equipment including:
    • APE De-Palletizer
    • Makro Pressure Sensitive Labeler
    • Matthews Ink Jet Systems
    • Bottle Ejector
    • Robino & Gallindrino Wire Hooder
    • APE Drop Packer
    • Box Sealer
    • Pearson Carrier Erector and Multi-Stuffer
    • Change over from various bottle formats and functions
    • Ensure overall quality of finished products, no low fills, mislabels, or damaged goods
Qualifications
  • Able to work in hot and cold environments for extended periods of time
  • Able to repeatedly lift 30 pound cases of beer
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, kneel, and crouch
  • Consistent and reliable in attitude and timeliness
  • Must be able to work assigned shifts
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Someone who is self-driven and proactive
  • Safety conscious and adheres to the PPE policies
  • Someone who complies with operating procedures through training, SOP’s, checklist, and other documentation
  • Strives to meet department and brewery objectives and goals
  • Forklift license or experience in operating a forklift and pallet jack
  • Proficient in Microsoft office
  • 4 year college degree, preferably in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related field, and 1 or more years of experience in a similar position
    • OR An equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Analytical and quantitative skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage competing demands in a fast paced environment
  • High proficiency in computer applications and software (Excel, PowerPoint, Analytical Software)
  • Very comfortable with multi-tasking
  • Organization and attention to detail
